    The Ten Uncommonly Used Filipino Words;Definition and Example Sentences

    We know that some foreigners are struggling to learn Tagalog . But the truth , also We Filipinos are still struggling, no matter how fluent we are in speaking our native language We still have so much to learn.

    Ever heard of Pook-sapot ( Website ), Yakis ( To sharpen ), karumalan (menstrual period) or panghibayo (amplifier)? If you still haven’t heard of these words, then you’re not the only one so Welcome to the Club! Indeed, we can be strangers even to our own language.

    So lets try to learn some uncommonly used filipino words! Here are another Filipino words that you might want to share with your friends.

    DUYOG(NOUN)

    English Translation:  Eclipse

    Definition:  The total or partial obscuring of one celestial body by another

    Use in a Sentence:  Nakita mo ba ang nangyaring duyog nung isang araw?

    SENTIDO KOMON(NOUN)

    English Translation:  Common sense

    Definition:  Sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts

    Use in a Sentence:  Hindi naman tama iyang ginagawa mo. Magkaroon ka naman ng sentido komon!

    Butsaka (noun)

    English Translation:  Pocket

    Definition:  A small bag sewn into or on clothing so as to form part of it, used for carrying small articles

    Use in a Sentence:  Itago mo ang iyong pera at cellphone sa iyongbutsaka kapag ikaw ay naglalakad ng mag-isa.

    Karumlan (noun)

    Definition:  Is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman’s monthly cycle

    Pulot-gata (noun)

    English Translation:  Honeymoon

    Definition:  Is the traditional holiday taken by newlyweds to celebrate their marriage in intimacy and seclusion

    Use in a Sentence:  Pumunta sa isang sikat na hotel ang bagong kasal para sa kanilang pulot-gata.

    Batlag (noun)

    Definition:  Is a wheeled, self-powered motor vehicle used for transportation and a product of the automotive industry

    Use in a Sentence:  Naku, nakabangga daw yung batlag na bago mong bili dun sa kanto!

    Di Mapahayang-gatang (adjective)

    Definition:  A moodily cross woman

    Use in a Sentence:  Mahirap magkagusto sa isang di mahapayang-gatang.

    Di-mataga (adjective)

    Definition:  A well-dressed, good-looking young man

    Use in a Sentence:  Uy, may dumaan na di-mataga sa likod mo.

    Alimusom (noun)

    Definition:  A sweet or delicate odor

    Use in a Sentence:  Nakagagaan ng loob ang alimusom ng mga bulaklak.

    Kalantare (verb)

    English Translation:  Flirting

    Definition:  Is a social and sometimes sexual activity involving verbal or written communication as well as body language by one person to another, either to suggest interest in a deeper relationship with the other person, or if done playfully, for amusement

    Use in a Sentence:  Akala mo true love na, yun pala kalantare ka lang niya.
